Depends fully on the job. My job allows you to jump one grade with a degree. Why? A college education doesn’t teach you to fight wildland fire. I get it if you are applying as a scientist with the USDA. But for digging line in the middle of the woods? No, you don’t really need a degree.

I am the UK and am not fully upto date with the specific jobs you are talking about, however, please do not write off someone who does not have a degree.
They may not have gone to uni but will have picked up great skills from being in the workforce
Having worked in the insurance industry for many years, I know that it was once considered that you needed to have degree to be an underwriter working within Lloyd's of London. I am happy to say that the staff I employed (with and without degrees) as Underwriting Assistants, have gone gone on to have sucessful careers as Underwriters.
Remember that to have a great team, you need diversity. Embrace change.

This doesn’t really give me a good idea of exactly what that would mean. How many jobs would it impact the qualifications on? Without any context on the actual jobs it is hard for me to have a strong opinion either way. You would still need a degree for the majority of the ones that require one now.

I have two post graduate degrees, but I believe the vast majority of jobs should not require a college degree. job descriptions routinely over-state the minimum requirements. In addition, it is a very different labor market then it was even ten years ago

Sounds like more of her racist DEI policy. No, we aren’t looking for the most qualified candidate for the position, we have to fill this position with anyone except a straight, white, male or female.

like

Ooof that is a tough one. I think for me it would depend on the job because I definitely think there are some jobs that don't even pay that well in which people don't really need a degree for. But I do agree with you that if they do it for every job it will sort of invalidate everyone's degrees that they worked hard for.

So I hope I can get my debt canceled since I worked hard for nothing!

Depends on the job. Legal, Doctor and stuff like that, I get it.
IT not so much. I've been in IT for over 17 years and I can tell you without a doubt that college for IT is a paper mill compared to on hands experience, certifications and vocational specialized training.

Sometimes it's not about a degree. Not all cases of degrees make you qualified to sit in front of a computer and look at your profit and losses all day. Plus you disconnect from the ones who do the jobs and you may end up disrespecting them. The ones who deserve a chance are the ones who knows what's going on. The workers. The biggest issue I find in degrees and people? Power goes to their heads.

I am a Product Manager in a different company now, but joining Google is a long time goal, hoping to learn from your experience and align my learnings to be a solid candidate in the near future. Not applying now but planning the best way of getting there. Thanks!

Good morning!

Still trying to figure out this whole Fishbowl thing, so here goes my first post.

I would love to get into provider credentialing, but all employers I've looked at want at least 3 years of experience. So, I'm looking at Provider Network Coordinator roles, because I'm finding some of those roles don't need AS MUCH experience. I'm a RHIT, and have been working in healthcare for nearly 10 years.

Any input on employers is appreciated!
