How do you balance pumping breaks at work? Do I essentially just work longer days to still hit my 40-45 hours? Or is there any working with HR to lower my goal (without taking an FWA).

I think you should work with HR.
I disagree with all the comments saying you should work through your pumping breaks. That’s great if it works for others - but firstly, it’s legally mandated to give you a break (that means you do not legally need to work), and stress affects milk supply, so I personally never wanted to work (which stressed me out a lot) during pumping or nursing. I felt like it was very detrimental for me.
Good luck and hope you work out something that works for you. Pumping is just season of life. When you’re in it, it feels like it’ll last forever, but it’s temporary, and you’ll get through it.

I pump in my office and work through pumping, mostly. Sometimes lower key work, but a lot of times I just keep doing the research/writing I was doing before, and just little pauses to set up and breakdown.

If pumping is painful or distracting for you (it was for me at the beginning), the advice I got from a lactation consultant was to lower the suction and lubricate the flanges — I pump on really low settings mostly.

Your KPI is fixed if you are full time.

I pump in the car to and from work so that I only have to take 2 breaks on in office days. This is like 7:30am (car), 10am (office), 1pm (office), 4:30pm (car). I feel like I’m hitting my hours!

Does your ey office have privacy rooms? I would bring my pump to work and block off a few 30 min blocks so no one schedules a call with me and bring my laptop in there

I always preferred to work though pumping so I could get stuff knocked out and get home.

I worked while pumping with all three kids. Just block the calendar.

Told a friend of mine in tech I was considering moving to BCG. He asked me if I would have to move to Boston.

I followed up by asking what he thought the top consulting firms were. "I'd guess PwC and then McKinsey are the best. I've also heard of KPMG, Deloitte, and Bain, but I don't know much about them."

Just a reminder that outside our bubble no-one really cares about firm prestige etc.
