I dealt with it by deciding to do everything I could to try to be a parent through fertility treatment and seriously considering fostering to adopt.
Being childless would be a very sad outcome for us, but I knew I could cope with it better if we “threw the kitchen sink” at it before accepting it.
Not yet okay with it, although I have definitely thought about it. I have one transfer and one full IVF round left in me before I resign myself. If it doesn’t work, then that is what it is and I will probably take some mental health leave to grieve before moving on with the good things in my life. Sending love and baby dust for this incredibly hard journey.
I have a co-worker who’s in this scenario, her and her husband now constantly travel internationally, rode around regionally with their camper for long weekends, and have weekly family nights with their nieces and nephews. She went through 3 failed attempts, the last was a miscarriage at 3 months.
