Perception and presence. These are my most difficult lessons to learn. Sometimes a fresh start somewhere else is needed.
Ooof time to leave! You’ve likely fallen into the work horse category and the CDs don’t see the value in you as a big idea creative. So go somewhere that will treat you like the shiny new object and give you a chance.
Jump ship and be that person at another agency.
Option 1: You can leave, like everyone is mentioning.
Option 2: You can force your way into these opportunities. Get someone to pass you the brief under the table. Pitch your own ideas/concepts to the CD. If the ideas are good, you’ll be on the CD’s radar for other opportunities. If not…
Option 3: Do what you’re doing now until the agency decides you’re not growing or bringing enough value and decides to part ways with you.
Your reputation always precedes you. At your current agency you have no reputation—you’re a junior creative starting out. At your next agency, you’ll bear your current agency’s reputation and whatever work you’ve done there. And on it’ll build as you add agencies and work to your book. And then YOU’LL be the creative getting the special treatment you’re seeing new hires get. That’s the game.
Since you're a junior, talk to your CD. Ask about being put on projects you want because you think it'll help with your growth as a creative.
Move agencies lmao.
I have found that you have to be proactive, express interest with the right people, and put in the time.
Get onto pitch work. This is a quick way to onto desirable accounts with no creative ceiling. If your ideas and work result in winning the account then you may have a new home.
Pitch work also teaches you how to work fast, efficiently, and to dream big. It is a tireless pace but if you can succeed there you can succeed anywhere.
