Naming is critical…

Hello! I am looking for two new Texas teachers (0-5 years) who would be interested in participating in a study I am doing as a Doctoral Candidate at Baylor. The study looks to understand the experiences women working in the field of education have had that triggered shame and explore their resilience. If you are interested, click the link below to get started: bit.ly/ShameResilienceStudy
If you have any questions feel free to email me at stephanie_asselin1@baylor.edu.

The same was I ask them not to use profanity in my presence.
Almost all of my students are Black.
If I hear it or any profanity/obscenity I will say something to the effect of "Watch your language" or "Please don't use that language"
Usually they will apologize but sometimes they are completely unaware of what they even said and a classmate will tell them.
I agree with California and have the same approach. I don’t allow any obscene language, and no one can argue that the word is not obscene, no matter who is using it.
No profanity allowed. Period. I tell them it’s unprofessional language and we have to use professional language in school. My only exception is when we read To Kill A Mockingbird; I will allow Black students to fill in the blank when I’m reading out loud, but at no other time is it acceptable.
Use school language not outside of school language.
I explain on day one that there are several words that I will consider profanity and that is one of them. If I hear it, they will go to the office and get a call home.
The office calls home for you? For profanity? They would get sent back with a question as to what the response was when we called home (implication being we should not be bothering the office until we had called home and things escalated AFTER that)
I will add that when I say something they tend to apologize or adjust their language and move on.
They don't complain or ask why can't they like they really want to say the word
