When do firms start sponsoring green cards? What’s the earliest year you have seen and can I negotiate this as part of lateral package?

I got mine approved after 2.5 years at the firm where I summered and started as a first year.

How did your firm handle the PERM process? Specifically the one that says no other American could be found to do the job? I'm in the same boat and thinking to myself that plenty of people could do my job.

We haven't done anything yet, but they have agreed to sponsor me have the firm's immigration counsel handle my case. We are meeting with counsel to get things started in the coming weeks in fact.

I'm not sure how we are going to handle it but I suppose that's what counsel is for. I am a third, fourth year but I am in a pretty specialized field where we do in fact have serious difficulty hiring, so I'm hoping that will do it. Otherwise it's hard to see how anyone, save top athletes and such, could qualify.

Just accepted an offer with a psych startup. Not exactly the offer I was hoping for as I’m taking a slight pay cut ($73/hr) and it’s a 1099 position. I keep getting stuck on the 1099 piece because I’ll be working 40 hrs/wk, but have been told I’m not eligible to be a W2 employee. Needless to say, no benefits whatsoever. They don’t even provide a computer or any other remote equipment for the completely remote position. Am I making a mistake? Also, can anyone chime in about being a 1099 employee?

It’s hard to trust the partners/leadership when they want us to return to office as being better when we increase offshoring? Also, the pressure on billable hours when all that really matters is how much our fixed labor costs vs. how much we can bill (which is usually fixed fee or at least a range) and the fixed labor costs of offshoring is significantly cheaper so the hours don’t matter. Am I mistaken by this viewpoint?
