How do you professionally ask what their "range" is in an interview without sounding like money is all you care about?

I think you can professionally say something like, I didn't see a range listed on the job posting and in the interest of making this a worthwhile use of all of our time, I was wondering what the salary range for the position will be? That's honest and direct and helps them see you just want what's best for everyone.

like

I have asked: "What is the budget for this position?". Put it back on them to give a value.

like

Do your homework beforehand to find out what the average range is. To ask, something like you want to make sure there is alignment, and wonder if you could share the budgeted range for the role? Ideally, I let them bring it up first, but that doesn’t always happen.

OK, let's get one thing straight: You are supposed to be paid for work you do. You are not greedy for wanting that.

NOW... they are typically going to ask you a question like, "what kind of salary are you seeking?"

What do you need to do is the research ahead of time.

If the job does not show a pay range, do the research for what customer service representatives are paid in your area.

Based on that information, answer with something like:

"I'm aware of salary data in my area. I was thinking maybe between (this range). I am negotiable."

And listen to what they say to you!!!!

You see at the very start of the interview process, all that screening person is doing is taking notes. They are wondering if they should pass you along. If you are discussing the dollar amount and telling them you are negotiable or that money is not a disqualifier for you, they will take note of that and more than likely see you as someone who won't be in pain in the butt to work with.

Asking very directly what the range is for a position is completely valid. You’re not interviewing for a volunteer position. The pay is actually the only thing that matters. They’re going to ask you very specific questions to determine if they should pay you at all. You don’t need to be shy about asking how they plan to compensate you.

I frame it as wanting there to be alignment in what we are looking for and ask along with location and wfh questions

Have an interesting scenario. Holiday party season is approaching. At one of our parties (during working hours) there is an optional “talent show.” Employees can win door prizes. We have an entry that is a religious song - like one you would sing in church. I assume we need to let this employee perform this - or we are setting ourselves up for trouble. Likewise, if we permit this song, I assume we cannot compel attendance to the talent show. The talent show is part of a lunch thing.

Hi I was interviewed by Capgemini in December 2021 and surprisingly they called in February 2022 for second round.

1. When can i expect call from hr?
2. I was thinking it is not genuine as they did not had clarity for which they were interviewing me. However in both round people who interviewed had email id with domain of Capgemini.

Did it happened with anybody else?

Please guide.
Thanks

My husband just received a job offer on an opportunity he is really excited about. It would be great for his career and they are giving the 15% jump in base he asked for, however they won’t share what the target bonus amount would be. It’s an executive director position, so I would assume it’s a decent target bonus, but without that in writing it could honestly be a gift basket at the end of the year. Is it a red flag for them to not share this? His total comp could be less at this new job…
