Talk to the deciding person(s) about it. Tell them you’d love the opportunity, frame it as an excellent learning experience, or time for you to contribute. Sometimes that can be the deciding factor. Other times, it is just luck of the draw.
Thank you, you’re right closed mouths don’t get fed. I did this and I think they’ll be adding me virtually this time. I’ll be sure to bring it up sooner in the future so they can plan for me to be in person
I'm sorry you're not being invited on the photoshoot adventures! I'd be bummed out, too. Is there anything the other juniors are contributing or are they stepping up for certain tasks? Sometimes it's just about how you position yourself and step up for the things not everyone wants to do in order to stand out.
Thank you! I think a key thing is I am remote however.. I’ve seen remote people get flown out. I’ve also been active and vocal throughout the projects I’m on. So I’m not sure what it is but it may be something about how I present myself
a shoot is an opportunity to learn and grow. Your agency needs to invest in YOU but they also need to be accountable to the clients. Clients have gotten stingier over the years and it’s gotten harder for agencies to justify sending juniors who might not know how to respond to clients, how to act on set and how to pivot in high pressure situations. you may not have control over this and you might be at a shitty agency
there are things you can ask for that cost the agency very little money. Ask to sit in on calls with photographers and directors (even if you’re in the room but stay quiet), ask your resource manager or CD if you can help the creative team with their directors decks or shotlists, ask if you can help pull selects or start on retouching decks. present work to clients often, and learn to respond to their feedback and questions without getting defensive. this is the kind of thing that will help you, and ultimately show other people on your team that they can trust you
Thank you I love what you said about building trust. I work remotely so maybe that’s been a hinderance for me as well. I’ll see if I can get involved with remote shoots more as a bare minimum
