Is it worth becoming certified in compensation? I have 5 years of benefits and my new employer wants me to move into Total Rewards. Is this a better career move than just remaining in Benefits?

There is MUCH more $$$ in comp from my experience

like

Thanks for the feedback! So it sounds like I should go for the CCP certification

Also there is a limited talent pool. Go for it!

As a longtime benefits person, I’d also agree with comments here. Getting into comp will give you more options. Tip: Just know that you’ll need to love Excel hard.

like

Compensation roles are much more at a premium than benefits roles. Additionally, comp can be applied globally whereas benefits is geographically restricted. Another bonus is that all functions and leaders are interested in comp. Benefits are the highlight just once a year during OE or the indivual who has a life event.

I’m considering doing this as well. It seems so expensive. If there is anyway we could help each other out with studying and materials, I’d be open to that!

I'm a first yr attorney at an insurance firm and am in the process of interviewing for an in-house position at a tech company. The position is pretty much generalist, but I get the impression I'd be working mostly on SaaS and partnership transactions. I definitely think I would like the transactional work better, but I am concerned about the long-term earning potential vs. partnership. How common is it to eventually make $400k+ in-house/how difficult is it to transition back to a firm? Thanks!

I know that some other associates at my level are approximately 30% behind other associates in hours on a month to month basis. Yet all of these associates say they are “at capacity”, and myself and another associate still end up being assigned work instead of them. How do we handle this? For reference, all associates are around the firms minimum requirement, it’s just that a few of us are 30+% over and it is leading to burnout.

I'm testing SPHR in June. Any advice for securing the type of role I'm aiming for?
