Currently a Solutions Consultant at Pegasystems.
I am interviewing at and considering making a jump to Oracle as a Specialist Solutions Consultant.
The reason for my move is currently at Pega SCs are treated more as AEs or Account Managers. The role at Oracle would be more of a true SC position. I also feel that Oracle will look BETTER on a resume and someone as young as me would have BETTER programs in place to train me and give me the foundation needed to be a successful SC.
Thoughts?
Oracle
Sad but true

Less travel, less staff aug, less comp, much better benefits
French guy who transferred to the US a few years ago, here are my impressions:
People don’t get offended as easily there, and things were definitely more fun, the hiring process is stricter (for EY at least) so overall more skilled / smarter people. On the other hand I thought people were a lot more aggressive (clients, managers etc) in France but that might be specific to this culture. The work schedule is very very different there, I would arrive at the firm at 9/9:30am, go have coffee with the whole team at 10am, then break at 12, another one at 4pm, and leave around 7/8pm. You’ll have more vacations to.
But then you’d need to tell us which country your aiming for, because between Romania, Germany and Italy, I guarantee you that the cultures are very different. At any case I’d recommend you to do it, that will be an amazing life experience, even if you’ll make a lot less money there.
I actually grew up in Europe but never worked there. I’d would be aiming to go back to either France or Switzerland
My experience on average is less PC tiptoeing around each other over there, get stuff done somewhat easier/faster. Specific culture will be driven by the country and the company. I recommend reading Erin Meyer’s The Culture Map to get a better understanding of the nuances of corporate communication which transcend industries and apply in consulting.
I agree with you
I'm a Canadian who's worked in US & Europe. You'll have culture shock (you also might not want to go back). Also, depends where in Europe. French culture is very different from German or Italian.
No, not UK. But if you've studied in UK, then you have insights into the culture.
