I think that in the long run liking people you work with, being in culture that is a good fit for you, and enjoying the work you do are all more important. You could very likely make the shift to a different firm, but is it worth giving up the good situation it sounds like you have?

Some journalists work the same or worse hours than us. And they'll be lucky to make half the income. Much of their work is similar in terms of analysis, interviews, gathering insights. And they have thousands of people reviewing their work constantly.
In summation: comparison is the thief of joy, enjoy your work and life because I guarantee if you move with that mindset you'll start wondering why you didn't become a software engineer.
Everything is great but it just really sucks knowing I’m taking such a pay cut while still working in a high pressure consulting job
What does MBB stand for? Is there a lookup on all these abbreviations you lovely maniacs use?
I know I’m considered valuable to the firm and am becoming a leader in a top priority field, but I also understand the realities of the company and limitations of what they can offer people. Has anyone seen exceptions made to keep top talent? At SM level but also up to the senior MDs. How are those top leaders incentivized to stay vs leadership roles at MBB with more equity?
There is also no guarantee you’ll see the same success at MBB
MBB: McKinsey, Bain, BCG
A2, an acronym in an acronym. Lol consulting for sure.
OP, you have the information you are requesting, even though you may not realize it. You said that MBB/Big4 work isn't aligned to your interests. As a result, there would be a significant retention issue for you. You might need to bounce around, but ACN and similar firms can offer you the same salary doing what you love.
Out of curiosity, lumping MBB and the Big4 together is a bit unusual, as MBB and Big4 engagements are rarely that similar. What is it about ACN that has you so excited that you don't think the others have?
This is confirming what I was also starting to worry about... About to make manager and not okay with the pay gap. Also the MBB work is more attractive to me. Just don't want to take a step back to associate?
Level matters less than comp and what you do. Dropping back a level is fairly common, particularly in terms of setting you up for long term success. Also, if you can come in at the same comp at a lower level, you'll have more room to grow.
Consider nursing. A lot of people have the option to get an ASN rather than a BSN (both get you to RN). When hired entry level, both make the same. However, each degree earned during the career gives you a pay bump. Which is why it's smarter to come in at a lower level (ASN) and then earn degrees. Long term, the comp gap will likely be smallish, but it will be a slow gradient with a higher degree to get there. The total career comp difference will be significant.
M1 that's amazing advice. Thank you!
those opportunities and gotten offers, but I’ve turned them down because the work isn’t as aligned to my interests and I didn’t gel with the people. Anyone else feel the same at Accenture? Anyone make the jump ACN->MBB who can share their experience?
OP I don’t think you should be disheartened. The margins and rates at ACN compared to MBB and Tier 2 are lower. Not much management can do.
Then you have PE 24 year olds signing their offers for 2020 (recruiting starts this early lol) at 300k all in starting. Again it’s because of the margin on the deals.
If you are happy then continue to crush it and one day you may be MD!
Best of luck OP!
Strat always pays more even if all they do is deliver a 150 slide deck that nobody looks at and is a bunch of non feasible stuff.
M1 can you elaborate on MBB vs Big 4
I totally understand OP. I’m a year or two from MD and it’s pretty disheartening to see my peers at other firms get offers for double (or more) than what a new Accenture MD makes in my DTE. I guess you just have to decide what is more important - the people and the work or the money?!
Which part of ACN are you aligned to OP?
