It is extremely difficult, especially in this market. I’d fill your book with spec and apply for more junior roles if you’re serious about transitioning over.
That’s what I was saying. Obviously don’t undersell yourself. Just be open to more junior roles. Sheesh. I bet you’re a joy to work with.
Why would you want to? All those jobs are gonna be eliminated because no one is gonna pay you to write headlines in the age of LLMs.
Pharma’s regulatory nightmares are probably the thing that’ll keep our jobs safe.
I’ve hired for accounts at non-pharma agencies where we’ve been working on vitamin brands and have considered and even sought out pharma books! Depends on the client and general needs, but experience working with tight regulations and legal bodies, attention to detail, and general problem solving are valuable skills.
I actually did a brief stint at a pharm agency and it honestly got me absolutely spammed with opportunities at bigger shops. Pharma companies have deep pockets and often engage large agencies for more high-level concepts. You won’t have any problems just make sure your book reflects impressive conceptual work as well as tactical stuff.
Go for it!!! You can do it. Maybe even frame it in a way like you want to be challenged more creatively.
Try agencies that have health insurance or hospitals
If you’re an AD, it all comes down to what’s in your book and/or what you are posting on socials. You can very easily bounce back and forth if you are diligent about sharing well crafted work.
Says Senior Copywriter as their title. That’s the tough part.
