I’d walk. That’s just me tho. Plenty of other dealers out there… sure more cars of that make/model as well
Super hard. They can come down easily.
Just walk away. Better yet, go to the dealership, sit down at the sales guys desk, ask for the sales manager, don’t budge on your offer, and stand up getting ready to walk away if they try anything. I’ve knocked $8,000 off a $50k car with that tactic when the dealer was desperate to sell, so YMMV, but if they don’t want to give you that extra $100 from a $38k car, they are betting that you will cave and accept.
Bonus point - read all your numbers on the sales contract before you sign. Don’t agree to any add-ons from them. Have financing ready before you walk in the dealership. All of these will help you get a decent deal.
“Well here’s what I’m willing to pay. Give me a call if you can make it happen” and then leave.
Don’t plead, don’t explain yourself. Just leave the ball in their court. Only 1 of you is getting paid to facilitate the deal…
Shop around. I bought my last 3 cars online and had them shipped (still cheaper than the best local deal).
Typo PPI
If they aren't willing to match your needs, then find something. Also, consider that your budget has zero impact on what the car is worth, and the dealer isn't going to make less just to sell it to you specifically.
Their price is definitely higher than other cars with the same specs, except the seat color, from what I see now. The only advantage of this dealer is it’s super close to me. Though, the shop is notoriously arrogant to customers.
You’re going to walk away from a deal for $300? Doesn’t seem like all that much money when you’re talking about a 38k car
Hmm okay if the car is still available, I guess I will just walk in to talk about the deal.
Years ago my mom walked out over $100 on a brand new SUV. They came back to her wanting to finalize it and she got them down another $400. I'm still not sure if she used some mad negotiating skills or her mom voice and stare.
It’s simple. The person who cares less about the deal has more leverage. If you’re willing to walk, the other side is more likely to move (provided you’re not making an unreasonable ask, or it’s not a unique item/something that sells itself)
