I agree with you. From my perspective on the the layoff, I think the business short term came first which goes against all the leadership principles we have. Striving to be the best employer went out of the window. Creating a culture and messing it up will have long term implications. Who would want to trust Amazon to commit deeply and realize that they are just a number. I have heard many of the stories like yours. Top performers getting laid off.
Don't believe it's evolving for better. Other than maybe US, most of the other practices(atleast in parts) were already pretty close to revenue neutral. So, the sizable ProServe layoffs(or planned) made very little sense to me. Of course I'm biased because I was one of them. I was the lead consultant in various stages of discovery with atleast two of the biggest FSI clients and was prepping for a go-live that week, when it happened. Most of my major clients have reached out to me LinkedIn very unsatisfied with the way things played out and a good portion of them then want to hire me to lead their engagements. From my PoV I don't see what they accomplished 'Think Big' wise
