How long do firms typically let someone stick around between deciding to fire them and actually doing it? This is assuming it’s not done immediately or in the very short term. Weeks, even months?

At a biglaw firm, I think it also depends how long they’ve been around, but if you’ve been around for a couple years, I think generally it’s that you get a bad/middling performance review. Then if you don’t turn it around (you never do) you’re out 3-6 months later.

i’ve seen associates be given 4 months and some given 3 weeks. depends on how badly you fucked up imo

Months, too long honestly

Months , agree too long

Could be many months…

At an AMLAW 50 firm and it takes a long time, often months, up to a year. Depends on the reason for the firing of course, but if it is just an underperformance issue, it often takes a very long time.

like

Totally depends on the firm, and even the supervisor. I’ve seen a couple weeks, and I’ve seen a full year where the associate was given a hard push at their review and not fired til a year later and given 6 mos to look for a new job

I have no idea — to avoid liability? To make themselves feel better? I think they were hoping she would quit on her own

Thoughts on this Celine Tripmphe bag (maybe in teen size since I’m petite)? I LOVE Celine bags and already own Classic Box (light grey) and Micro Belt bag (amazon green). Would this overlap with my collection, especially the classic box? I feel guilty dropping $3-4k for a bag when my salary’s only 100k. But I want to treat myself for upcoming promotion (hopefully) and for going through hard year in 2020. Was looking at Navy Blue but also considering black, camel or more fun colors (red, pink)

I’ve worked at the same firm for almost 5 years. I’ve received an end of year bonus of varying sizes- my first year, my paycheck was doubled. The last 3 years, I’ve received 25k-30k bonuses. This year I received a bonus in April (20k) and one in July (15k) but I still expected an end of year bonus. I didn’t get it even though this has been my most profitable year yet. Should I just assume those earlier bonuses were INSTEAD of an end of year bonus or should I ask my boss?

What’s the best way to turn down a 2nd interview? During the 1st interview, I learned that the compensation for the role is not within the range that I am looking for and requires 400 more billable hours a year than what I bill now. I’d basically be laterally for my current salary just to bill 400 more hours. I also wasn’t aware that the local office was strictly ID. Firm website advertises lots of practice areas. Any advice?
