Depending on the type of chicken and the thickness, I'd say at least 15 minutes (for a thin sliced breast) or up to an hour (for thicker breasts or bone in thighs).

Oh, so you’re saying you would not marinate your chicken overnight?
It depends on type of marinade. If your marinade doesn't have much in the way ot acid? Preferably overnight. If your marinade is heavy in acids, like vinegar or lime juice? At least 45 minutes, preferably 4 to 6 hours. No more than 24.

Definitely overnight. I dilute my marinade a bit to cover the entire food. Typically a bottle of say, teriyaki will be good for 2 meals.
