Dependency , luck , opportunity due to attrition, team , manager
It’s not luck for sure . You need to prove your self to claim upper positions. Gone are the days when ppl were getting promoted on aging like if they are spending x amount of time in team, they will be promoted .
Its more of a how you perform . The aging maths sometimes works at lower levels promotion , but when you grow up in ladder , it’s more on performance and your visibility in team .
Luck can play a big factor. You need to be at the right place at the right time. The right department might get you elevated sooner to higher gcb ranks. It is pure luck if the people higher up in the pecking order for a VP role, with more experience and proven track record move on to greener pastures within or outside the bank. That automatically clears your path & makes you a favorable candidate. I saw this happen on multiple occasions this past 2 years.
Having said that, i agree with everything else you said. Please do add to the above if you feel otherwise
Anything between 12 months or 12 years...depending on luck and opportunity
