How much of your PTO do you use? My company allows you to buy or sell one week but you have to select this during open enrollment. Between Spring break, summer vacation, winter holidays, and family events, I usually use my three weeks, but am thinking of buying an additional week for next year. Is there any reason to not take off another week?

I usually purchase an extra week, mostly as contingency, but ours is cashed out at the end of the year if not used. That way, I have extra time if needed or a nice (self) bonus at the end of the year for unused time.

like

That would be nice. I think additional days purchased are the last to be used in our system.

like

i use every day I get. if i could buy more I would but no company I have worked for offers that

PTO is priceless to me. We get 20 days first 5 years, 25 days till 20 years, 30 days after 20 yrs. Plus standard holidays and 2 personal/floating holidays. I’d buy more if it was offered even at full Price which is the same as taking days without pay. I think all jobs should start with 30 days regardless of tenure plus traditional holidays. People are happier and healthier with a more balanced life.

like

What is the cost of the week? Is it more, less, the same as you would make if you worked that week? It seems to be a financial decision at the end of the day.

Manager, for me that seems a little steep. If you make 50k (using round numbers), that’s almost a thousand dollars to get 5 extra days off. If you make 100k, it’s almost $2 grand! What are you going to do during those 5 days? Probably spend even more money. That’s an expensive vacation. Different people are in different situations though.

I’m blessed with the double edged sword of having more than I can use.
Between what I have already used and what I have scheduled between now and 12/31 I’ll use a little over 7 weeks. If I used more than that I would struggle to keep up with my job.
I wish my company would buy a week or two from me. I’m locked in a battle to not lose PTO every pay period at this point in my career and selling two weeks would be amazing.

Do you value time or money. Of u can afford it take the time for mental health

I am not a very shallow person — he was already on the heavier side when we met. But when I look at photos from just a year ago, it’s clear he’s put on a lot of weight. I am worried about his health. I don’t want to overstep or make him feel insecure. Just wondering if anyone else has ever been here.
