How to politely tell your manager to stop forwarding emails that request DocuSign assistance, and use the paralegals instead? Not sure why, my manager has been utilizing me to help get the DocuSigns completed lately even though we have paralegals that do that as a main part of their job. Should I just forward it to our paralegals or is that a bad look if she asked me?

Forward to the paralegal and copy your boss so they see how you normally handle it.

like

Maybe they expect you to double check it then send it to a paralegal?

Yeah copy paralegal in. Dont outright refuse and sound like youre above doing admin tasks. In house sometimes you have to do stuff like that. Dont be the person that thinks work is beneath them. YOLO

like

Yeah, my main concern was around why am I being sent it now, i.e., is it something that is important that I should handle versus a paralegal..

Call your boss and explain it

like

“it would be a better use of my legal acumen and the company’s resources for me to focus on legal matters as opposed to administrative. thanks” done

like

“Thanks, X. I will loop in X to assist.”

HNY all! I have multiple rollover and traditional IRAs, as well as a solo 401k. But (since I started paying attention to this kind of thing) have always been over the income limit to start a Roth IRA. I’ve also not done much contributing in the last few years due to purchasing an apartment and saving for renovations. Cue pandemic joblessness... if married filing separately, would you say it’s a good idea to start a Roth while under the income limit, even in this climate? Any reason not to?

Morning all. I am looking for a favour/solid advice. I've been in the interview process for a dream role over the past month or so and just found out I didn't get the job after final round 🙃.

Unfortunately this isn't the first time this has happened during the past year searching. Looking for a SC level role within healthcare/public sector consulting firm. I know the job scene is a bit miserable currently but if anyone in the bowl is aware of a role I would love to have a chat.

Thanks all

Post beach photo shoot. Just as I thought she would - wild woman and bad dog mom forgot her treats. BUT there was a fisherman she was completely enthralled with some they got some good photos of her on the rock jetties. I was NOT in the right shoes for climbing rock jetties. She traumatized a crab, sniffed dead grass and got hit in the butt by a wave. Here is nap time at home.

Considering joining a small 50-person company as the only attorney (prior attorney is retiring). (I am currently in-house at a F50). For others who have done the same path, what surprises did you have when moving from a large company to a small one?

For example, it sounds like I should not expect a document management system, based on a prior post in this bowl. I’m guessing expenses like state bar fees and cell phone are not reimbursed.

Any advice on things to expect (or not expect)?

I’m in big law and on the cusp of making the jump to in-house. It sounds like the company I just interviewed with is getting ready to make me an offer. It’s definitely going to be a pay cut coming from big law but I do get some nice equity in the company. Is the jump worth it? What is work-life balance like in big tech legal? I’m currently in house at a large multinational; I like my job and I get paid fine, with a very good WLB (40-45 hrs). I want to look into FAANG-type opportunities as they would mean a huge pay bump, and I think I’m qualified, but I have no idea about the hours, and I don’t want to substantially give up WLB, as that’s why I left BigLaw. I don’t want to be miserable again. I know Amazon is poorly reputed for lawyer WLB… what about other places?

Have interviews set up at FAANG co and getting good signals, for a position that was posted widely (all across US) but not remote. Haven’t broached the subject of location yet. Would you (1) early on clearly state that you’re not open to relocation but that you would be open to visiting a big office once or twice a month; (2) not say anything now and wait to get an offer and ask for an exemption; or (3) something else?

When I moved in-house a year ago as a BigLaw mid-level, I took a 45% pay cut, far more than I was comfortable with (although I was fine with a 20-30% cut). I took the job because it was a great role and I was focused on making the jump in house and developing the skills I wanted, which required me moving away from my firm practice area. Now that my year-end review is coming up, how do I ask my company for a significant pay raise (not just a 2-5% inflation-matching raise)?
