We start with audience questions, and then trying to identify demographic info about that group and fresh USPs to speak to that audience. Then we have a story to tell, and it's a matter of developing the narrative, identifying tone and visuals to elevate the brand. A lot of brainstorming and emphasis on messaging goes into a commercial even before we've begun to think about how it looks.
Yea client always throws things out haha
First you come up with the idea, that either happens surprisingly quickly, or takes a week of working till midnight.
Then you write the scripts. Then they like some, they get rid of some, and you write more. Then hopefully your CD chooses your work.
If they do and you’re more on the junior side, this is when you start to get cut out of things. If you’re lucky, you’ll present your own work, but you might not.
Then the client will do whatever focus groups or testing makes them feel comfortable. Then it’s time to make the thing, but at any point the client can get cold feet and pull the plug.
If by some miracle your idea does end up getting made, then you put it in your book and start looking for jobs that you might actually be able to get now.
