I’d like to preface this post with saying I was in a very toxic relationship previously. I went to therapy, healed myself, and now feel I have found someone very healthy. He self reflects, he listens, he’s present, he makes me feel heard (mostly). With all that said, I can’t stop feeling like he’s only giving me the bare minimum. I do a lot of the small things, make sure I’m hitting all his love languages daily, and I keep feeling like he thinks he’s doing everything to keep me happy, but
Can’t comment on the pain for a biopsy but an HSG was pretty freaking painful. However I think it varies wildly from person to person how painful it is. On thing I will say with the HSG is that while it is very painful it only lasted for less than a minute and I had no residual pain afterwards. The whole procedure is very quick. One thing the nurse did for me was let me squeeze her hand since my husband wasn’t there- I probably almost squeezed it off but it was helpful. 🤣 Agree with the comment above on OBGYN care. You got this though! Women are so strong 💪

My HSG was a 12 on a scale of 0-10. But I didn’t take any pain killers.
I took a max dose of Tylenol about 45 minutes before and didn’t think it was bad at all. Felt like bad period cramps but the whole thing was a couple minutes and no residual pain after.
Honestly for me the anxiety was wayyy worse than the procedure. I have had a colposcopy and felt this was less painful than that.
HSG was horrendous for me but I had a messed up uterus (fibroids that made it a weird, hard to navigate shape). I just had a myomectomy so I think it would prob be different with different anatomy. Get some cold packs and take some Advil. It’s very short but I expect/hope your experience is very different.
Got HSG done this morning and it was 2 on a scale of 1-10. Definitely take ibuprofen an hour before the procedure. It hurts a tad bit when they put speculum in but after that it’s not too bad. No pain or cramping after it was over.

I had to do 2 HSGs - and the first time was worse than the second. It honestly felt like bad period cramps (sharp period pains), and it subsided within 1-2 hours. The second one felt like more mild period cramps.
Either way, it was totally manageable with some OTC pain relief. I did take the rest of the day off and laid down /relaxed, which I would recommend.
I agree with taking Tylenol before - I did for both. For endometrial biopsy, the procedure is quick but then I had continued cramping after. For HSG the procedure is longer (still only a few minutes, but not nearly as quick as biopsy), and it hurts during but then when it’s over, it’s over - I didn’t feel anything after. Good luck!
A heating pad really helps!
My HSG was pretty painful but like most said, it was fairly quick. I don't typically get period cramps and only back pain so the pain in my stomach area was a bit much for me. If it lasted any longer than 1 min I probably would've let out a tear. I did experience heavy cramping for 2-3 hours after the procedure. I did not take any pain killers before or after.
Can someone educate me on HSG please? I went through full fertility check up and treatment and never need to do HSG. The clinic that I went to offer FemVue, they told me this is a way better option than HSG?
Ok, I got you. So FemVue offers the same testing goal, it's just FemVue is a new method, and way less pain. I would totally recommend FemVue over HSG at any day
I heard so many horror stories about the hsg so I was terrified. I took advil before I went. My hsg was as easy as it could have been. I will say I didn’t have any blockages so that may be why. I hope all goes well for you!!
While I can only describe my biopsy as “what the hell is that pain” vs my HSG as “why is this happening pain”, it is most advisable to take ibuprofen before and after the HSG as instructed. Personally my HSG experiences were not as bad as my biopsy. I believe it was because my cervix is at an awkward position, so it took the Doctor some maneuvering. We are all shaped differently with different issues, so it’s best to relax, follow instructions on using the painkillers, and take the rest of the day off. You may continue to seep HSG fluid out for a short while… it’s better this happens in the comfortable environs of your home.
HSG wasn’t that painful. It got over very quickly.
I had an hsg done and felt NO discomfort, not even a little bit. And I am very sensitive to pain.
I took Tylenol and my dr prescribed antibiotics prior to HSG. It was extremely painful. I was wondering if it was what contractions feel like. Way worse than period cramps. At one point I thought I was going to crap myself. But the reason is that my tubes are both blocked so the pressure from the dye was intense and the Dr thought he could clear a path? And kept injecting dye. I think if you have minimal to no blockages it is less painful. I also have a very tilted uterus. I was sad to learn my tubes were blocked (from a childhood surgery) but glad to have an answer to my infertility. My best advice is to just breathe ( and load up on painkillers). Also I had slight bleeding afterwards.
HSG was painful for me but it only lasts for 15 seconds. There’s a lot of pressure but it’s over soon…
