Hmm.. when you say "recognize" what do you mean? Are you saying that managers critique behaviors in junior level employees that they wouldn't in higher up employees? I think the biggest area I see this in is time management. Junior level employees get their time a lot more micro-managed, regardless of their performance overall.
I completely agree about time micromanagement. I have seen junior staff scrutinised for five minutes of lateness while seniors vanish for hours without explanation. It is frustrating and demoralising.
I suppose inappropriate behaviour in senior management might be overlooked for fear of repercussions. We need to encourage accountability at all levels.
That fear of speaking up keeps the cycle going.
Oh! This is brilliant. I don’t know that I ever really thought about my biases. I know we all have them and I’m sure I’m guilty. I guess it’s something I need to think about and possibly working.
We all carry biases, even when we mean well. Admitting it is the first step to doing better, especially in leadership.
