I am a fourth-year Associate at an AmLaw 30 firm. I am thinking about lateraling over to a different firm. For context, they’re much larger than my current firm. In thinking about making my first move, I was wondering if there was anything any of you asked for (or wish you may have asked for) as a condition of your employment (e.g., ability to work remotely). I’m a first year associate (almost second year). I work at a national firm and I’m not a litigator. When I started with the firm, I was told I could work out of any office. Long story short, I regret choosing the office that I chose. I’d like to transfer to another office - is that a difficult ask? I’m licensed in the state I’d like to transfer to. I don’t know how to make this request.

Switched firms and new firm doesn’t pay any origination% of business brought in until the total $ brought in is mid-five figures. Standard? My book is below that threshold. Old firm paid 10%.

Foreign LLM student here. I plan to take the NY bar exam in February. I’m thinking of taking a bar prep course (most likely Barbri). They offer two options: the “traditional” course (which lasts around 2.5 months) and an extended 6-month course. The difference in price is substantial – 2.5k for the traditional course vs 6k for the extended one. Any thoughts/recommendations on which one I should take? Have an offer in hand in my market of choice, going to ask my firm if they will formally let me transfer to their NYO, and if not, I plan to put my notice in. Have a very long commute right now and I look forward to being able to bike to work! I don’t think this firm I am at will accommodate, but will try nonetheless!
