An offer is not enough - you require a work permit as well. The time it will take depends on many factors, including the job details, your credentials, etc. Your potential employer will probably have a law firm to assess your situation and prepare your application if you get that far.
You can apply for EE outside of Canada. With one year of Canadian experience you get extra points and are eligible for the CEC category of EE.
Work permits have various conditions, such as working in a specific city (typically where your employer is based), and not adhering to those conditions can lead to penalties. However, there can be some flexibility depending on your job and employer. Consult a lawyer.
Thanks. Yeah i was referring to getting the work permit. Would a job offer be enough there? Since I am from the US as an engineer I don’t think I’ll need a LMIA. Also my assumption that the work permit process is faster than EE due to the number of steps involved are lower. Yes my assumption would be to live and work in Canada on a work permit for a year to get those extra EE points. It sounds like i might be able to work and live remotely for a Toronto based company. Where do I go about finding a professional to work through these questions? Should I just start applying to jobs and go from there?
Nowadays EE is pretty fast, you should get your PR approved within 3 months of time. You should also be cautious that the pay and tax are totally different here, hence the remuneration doesn't match US positions. You can apply through LinkedIn, but employers would not be willing to sponsor you considering the market, work authorization time frame and other factors.
