First of all, I'm really really sorry about your dad. Second of all, I would just tell them you have a vacation already if they extend an offer. Normally they are fine as long as you let them know before you begin your start date. Usually a week is not that big of a deal.
Just tell them up front and take the vacation, it happens all the time
That's something where I'd wait to see how things work out. Assuming you find a job you're really happy with, you could bring it up and see if it's a problem. Some companies will be accommodating, but you can't always count on it.
I'm so sorry about the passing of your father. I would let them know after you sign the offer. Unfortunately, with the job market the way it is, there is no telling how long it might take to find a job. And you don't want to cancel your vacation once more for an unknown.

I'm sorry to hear about your father. I also say not to bring it up until offer is confirmed or you are in the final stages. Some places might be fine with the vacation, others might push off the start date. In my experience though, the better paying jobs have a hiring process that tends to take at least a month so the trip might not even be a factor because of it. Unless the trip is fully refundable, I wouldn't cancel it. Even then, I probably wouldn't.
Absolutely mention it. You had plans before you got hired and if the company is a good one, they'll recognize this and it'll be no big deal.
I would definitely let the employer know that you already had vacation schedules. Most companies will allow you to take your vacation as planned as long as you give them a heads up
I am sorry to hear about the passing of your father. That is a tough one, I have seen some people have it work against them and then I have seen some people where they accept a job and then start after their planned vacation. I honestly would just cancel the vacation and then wait to schedule it again once you have a job and accrued the vacation time. I have seen some people who it has worked for and some against which the best thing to do, if you decide to keep the vacation time scheduled, is to let them know during the phone screen and/or interview. Keep in mind that they will probably be running a background check and/or drug test which can take a week or two (some take longer though if they are really extensive). Most companies I have interviewed with and been with don't want you to take anytime off / miss anytime within your first 90 days of hire (90 days is a norm for a probational period).
Detroit Public Schools can be a wonderful place to work. I worked at the administrative offices when I arrived in 1997. That was amazing and supportive. It was none of the toxicity of the schools. You'd think that schools would be supportive, but alas, it's dependent on the administration. The administration is often pitting staff against each other and sometimes bully the students and their parents. I'm transferring out of the dismal workplace but dreading going to a new location.
I just hope that I can FINALLY retire in peace 🕊️ at the new place.
Would love to introduce you to our company if you don’t mind?
I'm in Detroit plus I don't drive.
Ask for it, all they can do is say no.
