I am planning to start asking some associates/partners at my firm for some transactional type work (I’m in litigation).
For real estate deals, what are some tasks that I would need to do to say that I have “transactional experience” in my resume?

What type of work should I be asking them for? What is typical junior level work in this area?

You’d want to get real estate related deals, not just “transactional”. I was a transactional attorney and did only healthcare deals (with some regular corporate/M&A). But if you want to do real estate work then that’s what you should ask for.

Real estate lawyer chiming in to second this. While I do a good amount of corporate work incidental to my CRE work, nobody would assume a junior associate had enough incidental experience to make a CRE associate worthwhile hiring for M&A or capital markets work. This is doubly true since you’re already retooling from litigation.

Make sure to give partners you work for now a heads up that you’re doing this.

A, that makes this a more delicate situation but also explains your motivation. I’m sorry you’re in this spot.

Does your firm have any formal process for switching groups or departments, and if not is there an official system for assigning work to associate or is it sort of a free for all?

Hi folks,

Am joining NatWest by next week. What docs we need to carry? As this is my first switch, a bit confused

Do any of you use Jo Malone ?

I was on a partner/manager call today and they were discussing the “high” turnover at the senior and experienced associate level. What was shocking is that while ours is about double normal, evidently we are 3 out of 4 in turnover meaning 2 of the Big 4 are even higher.

I'm a third year plaintiff's employment law attorney and I'm looking to move to defense, preferably still in employment law. I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.
