I am pregnant and mum wants to come over to stay for a long period, she will be coming sometime in December. Question is, is it okay for her to book just a one way flight, and later on book a return depending on how I am doing or if she needs to go back earlier. Will no return ticket cause issues at immigration ?

I don’t know from where and to where, what passport she has etc. but in general, it is always an option to book a 100% refundable ticket back and cancel it after immigration

Sorry didn’t mention, she will be coming to London, UK from Qatar and holds an Indian passport. Hmm thinks it’s best to be in the safe side then

It will cause issues depending on where you live and where she’s from. In the U.S. it would be required or they’d turn her away; but based on your use of “mum” I suspect you might not be from the U.S. so it’s hard to say without knowing more. Every country has different laws and visa requirements.

My MIL from South Africa stays with us 6 months on, 6 months off to help with our kids and has a 10yr tourist visa that permits her to do that, but she’s been interrogated at the airport about her plans. She always has her return flight scheduled and knows not to exceed 6 months or come back sooner. But we consulted a lawyer first.

Sorry forgot to mention, she will be flying to London, UK from Qatar and holds an Indian passport. I don’t think I should risk it in that case, wouldn’t want to deal with any issues closer to my due date!

im not sure if this can still be done but what we used to do before is book a ticket back - print the itinerary and then cancel it to get the refund. Worked for me so i have something to show immigration but not sure if they are stricter now

I know this career takes a lot out of folks, but what are some things you’re grateful for?

I’ve been having a hard time finding energy to interview but I’m REALLY grateful that recruiters from great companies reach out on LinkedIn just based on my skills/current company. Takes a big weight off.

As going through the interviews process as an experienced hire, do recruiters just email you with the offer or call you first and then email you details later on?
