Seems like consulting is becoming less and less of an attractive field to be in, and people are leaving the industry in droves. Is this because of the pandemic? What gives?

Might be because consulting is full of BS work that has little meaning. Combine that with less interest in climbing the corporate ladder. Maybe consulting can get back to its roots and shrink to a useful size. The rest of us can go into building actual value.

No it’s just more public than it’s ever been with apps like fishbowl and LinkedIn.

Well, no

Most people always move out of consulting. Most don’t have a way to partnership or equivalent. Exit to industry has always been an established career track of consultants.

It is still one of the best way to start your career and make way more than most professions. If you’re into it, partnership is still one of the best career choices and fastest way to get to exec levels

So I had been working as medical interpreter up to the early part of this year. Today, during an interview, the Director with whom I was interviewing genuinely urged me to consider pursuing a career as a PA or even attempt to go to medical school. I had considered it in passing before but today was about the third or fourth time that someone had earnestly nudged me in that direction. Has anyone here made such a career pivot before? I love working in healthcare, there’s nothing like it.

Just got another rejection... Is exiting to FAANG or MB really this hard? Trying to go tech.. or mbb, but not getting anywhere. I have 2 masters (mba, ms) from top schools, been in consulting for over 10 years, I am confident that I know my stuff well..but still I keep getting rejected. Interviewed with Google, Amazon, Cisco, McKinsey, and a few others and every-time there is something that is not a match... are the hiring managers looking for like 100% match? How long do y’all like resume bullets to be? I know to keep them to 1-2 lines and to keep the resume to 1 page but I’m conflicted about how to balance details vs white space. I’m in product and see some resumes with bullets averaging 5-10 words that state “Manage roadmap for $200mm product” while others use ~20 words per bullet and highlight product info, process, or impact in a bit more detail.

Trying to chart my next move and not sure what direction to go. All I know is I’m tired of being always “on” in a client-facing environment.

Any podcasts, books, etc I can read for insight into more internal roles like biz ops, corporate dev/strategy, other??
