I am starting to question how success is measured in this practice. I resolved multiple matters early this year and avoided litigation entirely. That outcome barely came up in my review. How do you get credit for work that prevents escalation?

Bring it up during your review and explain the significance and benefit to the firm. Perhaps, that prevented client crises and built rapport or strengthened client relations. Maybe it prevented a PR nightmare. Use your wins to negotiate pay if necessary. Many times if you don’t raise your own victories, they will go unnoticed especially if your firm is more metric based.

Early resolution doesn’t get the partners paid

Ahhh didn’t realize you were P side. That’s a totally different beast

like

if you are on the p side, the only metric that matters is the amount of attorneys fees you have collected. if you settled pre lit but didn’t get the value on the case that was expected of you had litigated, obviously the partners wouldn’t be jumping for joy.

I put a deposit down on a Rolex for my wife last November with my local dealer. Nice guy and no reason to doubt it as I underwent here were a lot of delays with Rolex. He initially said they’d expect it in 3-4 months and has since said they’re working to fulfill all orders by end of June. Is this ridiculous or sound about right?

Hello, I’m an associate (almost at the one year mark) at a midsize firm on the EPL team. I did about 2 years of employment law as a clerk during school and know that’s what I want to go into. I’ve asked for more EPL work but keep catching PI cases. I second-chaired an employment trial but don’t see any EPL work for the foreseeable future and wasn’t getting as much EPL exposure as I wanted before the trial. Any advice on a lateral move to a bigger firm with a broader range of EPL work?

What is considered a “large” caseload in employment litigation? I work at a large L&E boutique law firm and handling about 14-15 active litigation cases in state/federal court or arbitration. Some of these matters are multi-plaintiff and multi-defendant cases, but none are class actions. This does not include any matters I am handling in the charge stage or in pre-litigation. Not sure if that’s a typical caseload or not?

Need advice - I've been talking to a Partner contact at a big-4 firm where I REALLY want to work. She sent my info to the managing partner in my city, but I haven't heard anything for about 3 weeks. Been playing it cool because I know these things can take time, BUT, I just got let go from my current firm. I have til 12/15 to find a new job.

Do I tell her my timeline is now a month, or is telling them I'm getting fired going to tank my chances of getting the job?

I’m working at an insurance defense firm, trying to target my practice to L&E. I’m overworked and underpaid, but gaining valuable experience I hope to pivot toward an eventual in-house counsel position. I recently was offered an opportunity to lateral to a national firm for a significant pay increase (150% salary increase, much better benefits, hybrid WFH options). Problem-I would be shifting gears to Toxic Tort. I’m torn between my passion and the money. I’m a second year associate. WWYD?
