I don’t know why I joined this page because I have a LinkedIn page similar to those being mocked😅. BUT it has opened up so many doors for me personally and professionally. It’s literally the only place where you can brag about your accomplishments and it actually means something to the people in your network.

I dunno. What’s everyone’s gripe with LinkedIn? I’m really curious

I'm out of work, and was advised by the outplacement firm that I needed to self-promote *a lot* more on LinkedIn. I imagine many others in the ongoing waves of layoffs have been counselled likewise. In other words, it"s understandable why boasting is so prevalent right now, and I can be a little more forgiving than others of people announcing their achievements. It's largely insecurity masking as bravado.

That said, it's important to recognize how the cumulative effect of all this crowing is received by others. It can be a bit much, hence this bowl.

For my part, I'm trying to follow the advice given, but diluting it such that for every vainglorious post, I make several others that are helpful, informative, or conducive to a productive conversation. Here's hoping it gets me a job... and that my posts are never featured in this bowl!

I agree, it’s good to mix it up!
Sorry to hear about your layoff. I was laid off in May and it was quite emotional.
But when I got laid off I posted about it on my LinkedIn and through all the support (likes, shares, comments, DMs) I signed an offer 3 weeks later! That’s because I “brag” on my LinkedIn so people know what I’m doing in the community and wanted to help. Maybe I created a genuine following and I’m lucky? I dunno. But I love my LinkedIn fam.

Same here! Lol I just saw a post in this bowl about mocking when people announce their new job and I'm like I do that !! Lol but to be fair some posts in this bowl from LinkedIn are super cringy.

like

Yeah I can agree. I guess I don’t see any of those cringy posts on my actual LinkedIn feed lol

I cringe over the things that are too personal to be posted on a work site. Puts those on your personal SM.

like

I get that. Posting a personal milestone like a birthday celebration isn't cringe-inducing for me. Posting dating tips when that's not your gig, is.

I joined to make sure I'm erring on the right side of cringe when I post. Don't want to end up mocked (and if I do, I know to change things up).

Do you think partners in law firms have too much power and autonomy? eg. the power to refuse leave, to do your annual appraisal, to make you work while on leave, to overwork people, to manage the team on their on terms etc. Is this power bad or good for the firm and the team overall?

Related question - Do you think the HR in law firms are just there for show since the partners have a lot of power and autonomy?

One of the team member has applied leaves for continuous 3 days this month. Later she applied for a 15 days leave saying a medical emergency. Both the leaves were rejected from her manager saying connect with HR. though she is on leave without PM leave approval and this is not even prior notice to the team.
Now'what and all would be the consequences she might face. Is there any chance of these things are being escalated? Please advise!

I woke up today tired.

My work cell was buzzing and then I remembered something.

I forgot to thank the bus driver that dropped me off a few days ago.

I got up and rushed downstairs to find the bus driver.

It was raining outside but I was already running barefoot to the bus stop.

I stood there soaked in my pajamas as the bus approached.

Then, the door opened. The driver got up and shook my hand.

I sat down and started my shift.

I’m the bus driver. Reminder to love and thank yourself.

There really is such a direct correlation between cringey title and cringey posts.

Before LinkedIn...to me, the king of professional cringey was Shingy. Do you guys remember him? He was aol's overpaid "digital prophet" and got paid to visit companies at lunchtime and babble the same kind of nonsense we now call "LinkedIn cringe".
