Wow I wouldn't have taken that for an answer. Your manager sounds horrible tbh. Employers have a responsibility to protect employees from potential harassment or discomfort caused by customers. Your experience should not be minimized, and I think standing up for your safety is important. If the environment does not change, it might be worth considering whether that workplace
Please tell me how a camera on a phone makes you unsafe. I'd like to hear this one.
That's a strange thing to have happen. The fact that it was a woman taking the picture seems surprising, it seems more like creepy dude behavior. Perhaps you should have just asked her why she was taking your picture. Your managers reaction was inadequate, but perhaps he didn't entirely understand the situation.
It’s against company policy to take pictures or video in a store (private property)
Your image is on more cameras than you could ever imagine. Quit worrying about a person with a phone. That is just so fukn goofy.
those cameras are impersonal. What the hell does a stranger want with your image on their phone? This wasn't just some quick snap, this was prolonged. People like this are either stalking or wanting to start crap and trying to find a way to manufacture evidence. All you need is some fool with a TikTok who needs material taking video of strangers and trying to provoke a reaction. Then they get someone being confrontational, edit it with a click-bait caption, and slap it on the internet with the wrong context. They have whole compilation videos dedicated to this kind of behavior.
This has happened to me, only i didnt go to management. Every time (that im aware of) i simply say "if u get a good one, please send it to me." Im a bartender though and that does make a huge difference.
You're on camera everywhere you go, do you complain about that ? I didn't think so.
It would have been what the picture is used for and why
That’s weird. I’ve had customers ask me to take a photo because they liked my hair. I think that if it was a woman I would just ask her what she was doing, politely, nicely and in a freindly manner. If she got weird I would excuse myself to the staff lounge. If a man was taking my photo I would excuse myself to the staff lounge until he had gone and also notify store security encase it was a tactic to distract me while his buddies were stealing.
