I gave three tone of voice options. The reply? “We love all of them. can you combine them?” One was warm, one was punchy, one was calm. That is like asking me to be Beyoncé, David Attenborough, and a Google ad… in one sentence. 🤔 what is this obsession with combining everything and what do you actually do when feedback makes no creative sense?

Usually, this means there are parts of the message the person really likes. It's normal in the job to have to teach a bit to the person about the common sense of the desirable. They don't mean hard; they just don't have the expertise you do, and you get to teach the basics to help them trust you. I would ask back, "What parts of each message do you like the most? While there is a character limit, I need to use it, and all the voices shouldn't go together. U can try to combine parts that you really feel should contribute, then I will show you what makes sense. People always appreciate it when I say that.

I agree with you... clients often do not know how to describe what they actually want. I have asked, “What line or phrase from each one stood out most?”

I would use this as an opportunity for me to demonstrate my self-advocacy and let them know that I will not be combining different tones of voice like that. Avoiding that kind of scope early on is a great way to set boundaries.

I respect that. Setting boundaries early saves so much frustration later.

Been there. When feedback becomes a “make it louder but also softer” paradox, I just smile, nod, and rewrite it twice. one version they asked for, one that actually works.

I have done the same. Hoping they end up picking mine without even realising it.

The argument that climate change is not man-made has been disproven by science over and over again, yet many people believe that the global crisis is either not real, not of our making, or both, in part because the news media deliberately chooses not to talk about it because it doesn't sell enough.

"Don't Look Up" is as real as it can be.

Tell me your craziest experience working with a TV network. Here comes mine:

I'm American, but my family is mostly Colombian. I was told my aunt and cousins would come here for 2 weeks. I discovered they were going to be paid to appear in a famous Hispanic TV show, where a "judge" receives a case, hears the plaintiffs and defendants and renders a verdict. But of course, it's all fake and payed 😂 turns out she wanted me to go there (even though I don't work for that TV network) so she's sure she'll be paid at the end of the show. Wth did I just do.

The station I work at is down at least 15 positions. Some jobs have been open for two years.

The remaining staff is required to step up.

Additional positions are opening up as contracts are either broken or expire.

How are people able to keep their mental health up when their station isn’t hiring people they need and refuse to pay living wages to potential prospects or promote those remaining?
