If you’re worried about burning bridges and you know it’s not a fit, better to pull out now than after receiving an offer and turning them down. (Or wasting time on an assignment that doesn’t net you a job you want.)
That said, if your bigger priority is getting a bargaining chip for discussions with your current agency, get the offer then proceed.
Yeah, I don’t want to play that game. I’m fairly paid and I have transparency in wage increases etc. money is money, losing the agency culture isn’t worth the risk

Just say you just got a very nice opportunity/raise etc… at your current job and decided not to move forward with the interviews at this time. Maybe in the future.
Sounds like you should take yourself out asap. Say something like after taking this role into serious consideration (and thanking them genuinely for the opportunity to be considered) I feel this role is not in my best interest for personal reasons at this time. Again, thank them and list specifics that were positive, who you met, the chance to do XYZ. Better to do it, now. Would you rather take it, ignoring the red flags, and be miserable just so you don’t burn a bridge? Trust your gut.
Once joined an agency on the promise of how it was evolving beyond its historical work. 2 months in realized it was a lie. Left after 6. Should have trusted my gut from the start.
Seems normal to me. Agencies stop the interview process at any point they want to. Why can’t we? I don’t see any reason to make up an excuse as some suggest above. If an agency decides not to proceed they don’t tell you why. Usually they don’t even tell you anything. I think just saying I’ve decided not to continue should be enough.
