Keep an eye on restructuring and budget cuts. But I’d still say there is a benefit in federal jobs. Stability, benefits, the workload, and pace are supposed to be more predictable. I haven’t made the jump, but it might be something I consider in the future.

Good points. I think workload is the most appealing.
.....have you paid any attention to how dysfunctional our government is? That's a real hard pass for me. Maybe (hopefully) it won't be as chaotic when you hit the point you're ready to consider it, but working in government is hardly the stable safe haven it was 30 years ago.
With heavy Senior Financial Analyst / Program Mgr experience (and a retired Naval Officer) you would think I would be able to find a seat at the govt table.
Well, I did, sort of.
I was to start a good position with the VA, 27 Jan 2025. The Predidential inauguration was 20 Jan, 1 week prior.
Between those two dates, Elon and the DOGE team hit. The VA was the first target. All new hires and probationary employees were eliminated immediately (the low hanging fruit). Nobody saw this coming.
It’s only gotten worse since then. Govt service has been severely affected and those remaining live under a shadow of extreme uncertainty and stress.
So, before considering a position within a govt agency, you have to ask yourself a question …
“Do I feel lucky?”
Well, do you?
