I was recently laid off in March due to the dismantling of USAID. I’ve spent the last 7 years working with a government contractor on USAID-funded programs, most recently as a Project Accounting Manager. Prior to that, I worked as an auditor at KPMG and Deloitte in Southeast Asia.

I’m a licensed US CPA and am now looking to transition into Tax and join an accounting firm. If anyone has openings in their Tax division or could offer a referral, I would greatly appreciate it. Deloitte EY @

Does anyone know where to get some of top consulting books used or low cost (physical copies)? Stuff like the 4S method, pyramid principle and McKinsey way comes to mind, but would like to get copies at a lower cost if possible.

I have 10 years of experience. Mostly in Unix, C++ and Visual C++ and MS SQL. I developed interest in cloud computing as like many others and was able to clear AWS Cloud Practitioner, AWS Solution Architect Associate and Professional, AWS Security. Along with these I was able to clear 8 Azure certifications as well: 3 fundamentals, Azure Security, Azure Developer, Azure DevOps and Azure Architect.
Now my main question, can I try to switch on Cloud Architect or some other similar cloud roles?

What would you prefer:

Job 1: 85k at small boutique firm (3 attorneys). Standard benefits but no 401k. Semi-annual raises. No billable hour requirement and regular 40 hour week. Being groomed to be a partner on a 2-3 year track.

Job 2: 135k at large regional firm (200 attorneys) good benefits. 1900 billable hours requirement. Partner track is 6-8 years but not guaranteed.

How do people feel about 7-ARM? I am getting 3.75% for 7-ARM vs 4.125% for 30-fixed. I typically prefer 30-fixed, but the monthly p&i will be lower by $300 and closing cost will be $4k lower. Unsure about ARM products, as we all don’t know where the rate will be in a few years…

Iqvia was famous to give single digit (4-5%) increment. Is it still the same case? Or things have improved to 12-14%? Based on performance and other factors for sure.

Would you stay living in a city you like but have very few friends there, or move back to your hometown where most of your friends and family are? My current city has a population of about 500k and my hometown is about 100k. My main reason to move away from my hometown was dating and jobs, but neither seem to be going any better over the past 2 years. COL is about 28% higher than my hometown and jobs don’t pay much better.
