I hired 2 new people on my team about 90 days ago, and I'm terrified to see the 2nd hire's 90-day evals. We are a small team of 5, so I hear and keep up with my team pretty well. The first person had absolutely fantastic reviews from absolutely everyone they work with. The other one is a new college grad, and is really struggling. I've had many sit downs with the 2nd one to discuss expectations and growth opportunities, but she still bosses people around and makes careless mistakes. I'm so lost.

Some people are dense af and really do require the "you keep telling me you understand, but I keep seeing you do the same behavior. wtf?" conversation. You'd be surprised by how many people lack the self-awareness to see how their behavior comes across.

You shouldn’t be lost. You gave someone a chance and she didn’t took it. Not your fault.

Sounds like she needs to be told what needs to be corrected and that if there is little to no change she will be put on a pip. Explain what a pip is though because she probably doesn’t know.

Keep good records of all the evaluations and make it official with HR a personal improvement plan. Outline what she needs to do to avoid being terminated. Your company should back you up and not leave you to deal with this alone.

If people are going along with the direction a very green new grad is giving them, the problem is bigger than just her. She bosses and criticizes and, what, they just let her??

I mean, I admire the enthusiasm and willingness to say her piece, but it sounds like she’s not very self-aware and needs to realize this is a learning phase for her right now. That and maybe an attitude adjustment. I’d honestly take that over someone who struggles to communicate and contribute. Too many people let their introversion (not a problem) make them passive (a problem). But that’s a whole ‘nother can of worms lol

What should I expect from my manager? I've stuck it out for a year now and all I'm ever told is to not make mistakes. Manager stated explicitly that he does not want to review or test my work. Any attempts at discussion of why I made a mistake are dismissed by him as me making excuses. I never get any positive feedback. I somehow manager to make it a few months without making any errors but I missed a small detail in a large project and my 1on1 went terribly because of it. Is this common?

PC gamer protip for notifications about giveaways on your phone. With IFTTT (free app that links APIs), use Reddit's applet for getting alerts for company name mentions configured to "subreddit:gamedeals free". Bunch of people post links to sales on that sub, including free stuff, and this way I don't have to proactively visit it. Picked up a few titles this way so far thanks to the "free" company getting mentioned 😉

I’m quite frustrated and ready to start new job ASAP. I’ve been at current job for nearly 3 years and anyone who might be potential reference for future jobs (old bosses) has already left the company. I have good relationships here otherwise too.
1.5 week notice will work out with my upcoming travel plans and personal life as well, but concerned about if agencies really put you on “do not rehire” list?

It’s hard to be motivated when rounds of layoffs happen and you see all your friends leave. But one thing that’s gotten me through all of this is working out. And when I say workout I mean the most pathetic, sad, barely completed beginner-level cardio dance routines. I’ve somehow forced myself to move while on lockdown and it’s somehow forced me to feel better. Whatever you’re doing, wherever you are: get up and move even if you don’t finish or end up going on a walk. Pls take care of yourself❤️

Can someone explain how billable hours work? At a new agency and although I had to fill timesheets at my previous agencies, they were mainly used to ensure we weren’t over servicing a client/for setting the appropriate retainer for contract renewals. I asked ppl at my agency but haven’t gotten a proper explanation. I get the impression that billing to the agency admin code isn’t recommended, and my manager said he bills everything to client codes, but that doesn’t make sense to me .
