Thoughts on giving less than 2 weeks notice?

I’m quite frustrated and ready to start new job ASAP. I’ve been at current job for nearly 3 years and anyone who might be potential reference for future jobs (old bosses) has already left the company. I have good relationships here otherwise too.
1.5 week notice will work out with my upcoming travel plans and personal life as well, but concerned about if agencies really put you on “do not rehire” list?

Anyone give less notice and get in trouble?

It's not really about references, it's about being professional. Try to keep emotion out of it.

I truly believe you'll feel better if you give full notice, do all you can to ease the transition for your team, and stay positive the whole time. And some folks may remember that.

If you have a new job lined up you already won. Congrats, be happy! No need to dance in the end zone.

If someone really takes that much offense to you leaving a job a couple days early — I wouldn’t really want to work with them again in the first place.

like

If you had prior arrangements I can make the case for 1.5 weeks… but we’re talking 2-3 days difference here. Seems silly. Just do two week. If anything, ask new agency for a later start date to take time off in between (assuming you haven’t already agreed to a start date).

But also, would you ever want to work with your current agency again? There are so many other agencies and companies…

Assuming you’re at one of the 6 holding companies?

like

Yep, IPG. Honestly I’m leaving the agency realm and hope not to come back ever again lol.

I do have prior plans, and the 2-3 day difference is only because I’m traveling next week as well (agency paid, but non client). Seems weird to put in notice while you’re already traveling/working less hours than usual? But yeah, sounds like might not be worth the hassle and i should just do an extra week …

like

Might be useful to note employment is at-will on both ends. The company will not hesitate to cut short your 2 weeks if it suits them financially while we as employees always feel obliged to do the 2 weeks. But certainly isn't mandatory.

like

Burns a bridge, never a good idea. What about your teams and peers? Will they appreciate how you left? Lots of people do it I think it’s bad form.

like

Definite do not rehire in your file.

like

Why would you go back?

Don’t want to go back but also don’t want everything I gave here for 3 years to be in vain because of a small thing, I guess?

How many companies would give you two weeks when they fire you?

What does your employment contract say? I’d suggest going with that formally (assuming 2 weeks) and then try to reach an agreement for less with your reasons.

If you feel this way, it may be likely they also feel this way about you. Be professional and give 2 weeks, there's a good chance they'll let you go right away. Then you get everything you want plus 2 weeks pay.

Just a thought, perhaps the admin can pin two threads:

1) When / how did you tell your work you were pregnant?
2) Would you change jobs / interview while pregnant?

Both of these questions come up almost on a daily basis, we should have a centralized thread to help each other out. :)

Any advice on dealing with a particularly critical client? I’m confident in the work I and my partners do. I think we add value and are great at what we do. I have a client who just attacks everything I do and goes to my boss at the drop of a hat. I’m starting to experience significant anxiety every time I see an email from this person. This morning I woke up to another critical email to my boss with a copy to me. I’m at a loss and now questioning my work and concerned about my job.

I am so tired of my sister and mom, and the pressure they apply on me to get married, 32 year old female and I have not met someone yet. I was in a relationship last year for a year and he turned out to be a very mean person and they now don’t trust me at all and want me to marry the first nice guy I go on a date with even if I have no attraction at all, and if I go on a couple of dates and I don’t feel it, they question my judgement. I feel like dying from the pressure.

Would you all say you’re invested in good projects if the market cap remains the same recently, but your portfolio keeps going up and up? Or is that dumb logic.

Why does the 3% Conference get so much money from agencies & clients when they have a history of showcasing toxic, abusive to female employees underneath them, women in advertising? Every year, people are shocked at who gets featured there. The idea is not just to celebrate women, it’s to celebrate aspirational women. Maybe they ran out of speakers and are dipping down too much. But agencies and clients should take a hard look at who is speaking before giving money.

At the start of the month, spoke w a CD I knew about a spot at his agency. He said my salary request was a bit high & told me his cap. Fine, still interested. After a couple of weeks of nothing, their recruiter calls me on Thursday to tell me more about the agency and the role, then says the salary parameters & it’s $5k less than what the CD said.
