I hit a weird situation: I got an offer that pays $10k more, but has zero benefits. No 401k, no health insurance, no PTO, not even a gym reimbursement. On paper it’s a raise, but the more I calculate what I’d lose, the more it feels like a scam. Is it even a raise if you’re suddenly footing every bill?

Definitely not a raise if there are no benefits involved.

Exactly!

If you are not getting benefits it is not a raise heath insurance alone is a significant benefit look at what it will cost you to go out in to the market and buy health insurance . No 401k and no PTO .It is not a raise even on paper your benefits are a significant part of your compensation .

Which somehow makes it worse

Not weird to me, just a hard pass. 10k isn’t nearly enough to make a move in my opinion. You want to work 52 weeks a year for only an extra 10k?

That is a scam. And benefits means you are loosing money there

But hey they’re getting 10k more😂😂😂

That doesn't sound like a raise at all. I don't think I'd bother moving for 10k even if the benefits were the same.

Please do not take that job. $10k is an extra $4.80/hour ($192.30 per week) they’ll take it in taxes bro

Definitely not a raise when you consider benefits

You have to view those items as part of your total compensation. You’re taking a loss even though it seems like a raise.

My company is merging with a company that doesn’t do 401k match and I am losing part of my compensation, even though my pay is the same. These are benefits that you can’t ignore.

I am a registered sales assistant which means I have my series 7. I also have the 63 and my Life & Health license. I was a financial advisor but the role is commission only so I decided to take a role as an assistant for some time to learn etc. I really like my role, but I only make 32k a year and after taxes I only take home about 25k. I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?

Does anybody know what the typical salary range is and total comp for someone starting out as an internal or external wholesaler? If you are one of these, can you share about your experience in terms of whether you liked it or not, work life balance, travel, etc?

Currently a Wealth Advisor for Citi but I honestly hate it here with a passion it’s the worst company I’ve ever worked for in my life and I’ve been in Wealth Management in the banking channel for over a decade. Series 7, Series 63, Life, CFP, ChFC, and soon to have my MBA with a focus in Mergers & Acquisitions. I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.
