I haven’t played this year because of a broken collarbone, but I typically belong to a private club. The difference between a 4 hour round and a 5.5 hour round at a public course on a Saturday morning is valuable time to me.
Same! Need to join one.
Private club but the parking lot is full of pickups, not BMWs.
Family of 7 and the kids are learning to play.
Very worth it.
I wasn’t implying the bank account balances of the members, more just the vibe.
Rising Star
I play every weekend at least once but I’m not a member. Too expensive and I don’t want to play the same course every weekend.
I’m a member at a club, it’s close to the house and we get a lot of use out of it.
What do you pay per month?
I’m a member at a Florida club. The public courses nearby are crowded and aren’t well maintained.
That’s why I joined. I don’t use the club for any other reason.
I wish I did, because it was expensive to join and dues are hundreds a month. I have one kid under 2 and another one is on the way, so it will be a long time before they would ever get any use of the membership.
Club. We use it a lot socially, and it’s a way to reciprocate with members at other nearby clubs.
What i’ve never understood are the clubs with 40-50k initiation fees but that doesn’t buy you any equity. It’s just lost money, if you leave, move to another town, etc. I don’t mind monthly dues and i’ll pay a chunk for the right course, but i’m not just throwing money down the toilet.
Casual
I play often but don’t have a membership. Even with the cheapest in my area (DFW) I’d have to play the same source 2-3x/week to come close to getting my $ worth and that just isn’t feasible
Casual… I prefer the clientele at the local muni over country club types
That’s a good way to put it! I’ve met some really interesting characters getting paired up at munis… you can tell when a club member is slumming it because they never help you look for your ball
Would love to join a club because I golf every weekend anyway so I might be spending the same amount or close to it. Also new to my area so it’ll help meet new people.
Member, private 9-holer. Very laid back. Can usually just show up and play. Perfect mix of good golf and not many Judge Smails types
I’ve sent boys younger than you to the electric chair.Didn’t want to do it, felt I owed it to them!
Member at a public club. Worth the price after figuring out how often I need to play to break even.
I was a casual muni golfer but recently joined a club on Long Island. The under 40 deal was last year’s price for the remainder of 2022 & all of 2023. Too good to pass up & not so cost prohibitive that I feel guilty playing elsewhere from time to time
I started golfing because I'm a member of a country club with a great golf course.
