I just got my first Senior title and I realized it’s just a fancy way of saying I’m the person everyone complains to now. My email inbox has tripled with administrative tasks. I thought I wanted the ladder, but now that I’m on it, I kind of miss just being one of the team. Is upward mobility always this isolating?

At times, yes, it can be isolating.

My days are spent dealing with escalations and people problems.

Be careful what you say, and to whom, as your words as a leader now carry different weight.

I hope you are being well compensated for your trouble.

Management isn't for everyone. Some people are happier and better at being ICs, and there's nothing wrong with that!

Any thoughts around how to use M&A tax skills for the better good? I’m a CPA and originally got into this for a stable / interesting job, but in the long-term I’d like to do something that either influences drafting of tax legislation or helps the public (however naive that may sound). Perhaps I’ve gotten too introspective during the pandemic. Don’t really want to go back for a JD and aside from keeping a roof over my head I’m not very motivated by money. Anyone else have similar ideas?

I have a game I love to play at the airport. I find someone who has the most vague resemblance to someone famous and then insist they are that person.

Like "Oh my God, you're Tom Hanks! I love so many of your movies and I think you are great and so funny in interviews. How are you feeling? I heard you had covid?"

Guy who very very vaguely resembles Tom Hanks insists he isn't. Then I keep insisting he is.

This is a fun way to pass time during layovers.
