From what I have always experienced working in retail, they prefer people who can work nights and weekends. Most people do not want to. I would put full availability on the application though, to get you past the screening and get you the interview. Just make sure it doesn't say something like we will hold you to this availability for the first three months. I think it was Macy's I applied at before and they explicitly stated that. Otherwise, I think you're good.
Like others have said, I should have mentioned to tell them in the interview. They should totally be fine with it. But I noticed in my last two retail jobs, they wouldn't even interview people who didn't have full availability, but once they came in and explained, they always ended up hiring them. That's why I suggested doing it to get the actual interview and explain then, definitely don't wait until you get the job or yeah, they won't like that lol. Good luck!!
I would definitely apply and explain later. Places like that are usually willing to work with your schedule. They don't actually expect you to have open availability.
Yeah I mean I’d never not apply!
I’m going to disagree with the others. Apply but put your availability in. Depending on the place, sometimes they need weekend and night people. But if you say you have open avail and then after getting hired say only weekends and nights, the manager(s) have every right to be pissed at you. Retail needs flexibility, but for example I live in a college town and need day people. If someone told me they had full avail and then after getting hired couldn’t work mornings, neither of us would be happy because you wouldn’t get hours and I wouldn’t have an employee schedule the business needed. And if someone rejects you, don’t assume it’s personal, assume it’s the needs of the business and your schedule.
I mean I think it just varies on what there looking for mostly but yeah I agree.
You might as well apply and explain that situation if you get an interview. If you're a good candidate they may be willing to accommodate your schedule. Go in with a positive attitude and it may work out well for you.
Yeah of course! Some places do do that!
