I live in NYC, but would like to purchase a weekend/summer home in PA. Any recommendations for a family friendly area that’s within a three hour drive from NYC? Also thoughts about buying in a community vs not in a community? Thanks.

Farm homes in bucks county are beautiful. I grew up in one, and think about it everyday

My wife and I bought a house in the Poconos, close to Jim Thorpe. Lots of year round activities and very easy to get there from the city.

We also looked at Lake George (too far, not much housing stock) and parts of the shore (very summer focused, not much rest of the year) to compare against.

We landed on a community and were also looking to rent it out while we weren’t there to recover some $$. On one hand the HoA board has continuous discussions about further restrictions on STR, which we’ve kind of pushed into the background. There are very nice amenities (pool, tennis courts, lake…) and regular activities each weekend and at the holidays, which are really nice. Annual HoA is also very reasonable (~$750 pa).

Lots of New Yorkers in New Hope (and in Bucks county, generally) these days. New Hope has a pretty good arts/culture scene with access to the Delaware River for family friendly outdoor activities.

We had summer houses in the Pocono area and down the shore… I preferred the PA house… we had 9 acres in a quasi community that backed up to game land… we had ATVs, golf carts, dirt bikes, pool, pool house, a multi-tree house… it was awesome… we all still talk about how we wish we still had it (parents divorced in 2010)… that should have been carved out… 😡

Is Operations paid the least at your respective firms? I was hired to a Client Service Delivery role with a heavy focus on project management. I regularly interface with leadership internally and at the client. But, I am aligned to the “Operations” capability and make the least of my teammates who perform seemingly identical work but are aligned to “Strategy and Consulting.” I worry I’m on a career path to being paid the least wherever I go, because Operations is in my title and background.

Everyday was a struggle and tried to keep myself small so no one would find out I was a "fraud." Looking back on it now, wiser and more experienced, I realized how detrimental feeling that way
