I love what I do, but I’m tired of defending my salary to people outside finance. I’ve had friends say I “don’t need that much” or accuse me of being greedy for negotiating. It’s awkward, and it makes me want to lie or deflect even when I’m proud of what I’ve earned. How do you deal with that kind of judgment?

I think those people are honestly just jealous. I have learned how to ignore those negative comments. They may not need that much but they wouldn't be sad if they mad that much either.

It can go the same for “lower” salaries. A lot of my old friemds joked on my salary but they work themselves to death while me and my husband have time together

Don’t defend your salary. If you’re comfortable then others can hush

Personally I find it easier to not talk about salary unless my friend and I are in the same industry and I’m curious so I know what I could be asking for

Why would you discuss your salary with anyone other than your spouse or SO? It’s none of their business what you make. I would respectfully decline if people ask. And I hope you’re not the one who starts that discussion.

Hi Tax Friends. Seeking some advice. I will give more context in the comments, but big picture I am a non-tax litigator interested in switching to tax. The question is: (1) pursue LLM; (2) take tax job now; (3) just treat tax as a hobby?

Home reno financing question. Have a big project coming up in the $120-150k range. Funding sources are:
- 90k from a heloc around prime
- 10k from a credit card that offers promo checks at 2-3% for 12-18 months
- 375k in a brokerage
- 5-6k per month cash that I can put towards the project, loans, or brokerage

I don't want to stop funding the brokerage because my FIRE plan is less numbers based than "hoard like dragon until it's enough" but maybe I should... How would you optimize?

Tax Senior Manager and Bowl Creator have thrown out WPF, SVOK, and AVAN recently. With these all barely above $10 (and SVOK actually temporarily below), what’s the downside to investing in these? Am I missing something? Don’t they offer you the opportunity to sell back the shares at $10 around the merge date? So max loss would be $0.12 per share on WPF (at current pricing) and $0.19 per share on AVAN?

Are there other SPAC plays that people like that seem like no brainers at these levels?

Currently a Wealth Advisor for Citi but I honestly hate it here with a passion it’s the worst company I’ve ever worked for in my life and I’ve been in Wealth Management in the banking channel for over a decade. Series 7, Series 63, Life, CFP, ChFC, and soon to have my MBA with a focus in Mergers & Acquisitions. I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.

I am a registered sales assistant which means I have my series 7. I also have the 63 and my Life & Health license. I was a financial advisor but the role is commission only so I decided to take a role as an assistant for some time to learn etc. I really like my role, but I only make 32k a year and after taxes I only take home about 25k. I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?
