I missed a deadline. I procrastinated on getting started with something and realized it would take too long way too late. I asked for an extension and the partner told me they would just handle it themselves. I feel terrible, this is totally on me. The thing that sucks is I’ve done this before. I feel terrible, and I feel my firm will fire me. Unsure how to feel better, I know it’s my fault.

I recently had a specialist partner send me a fairly nasty email after I (a transactional first year) was told to ask them to review something ASAP that had clearly been on my partner’s radar for over a week. Why am I taking the (honestly justified) blame for this? Surely it should be obvious that I’m just the messenger here.

Transactional associate. Lateraled 6 months ago and one of the biggest pain points has been my new firm’s inclination to “hop on a call”, which of course requires every single stakeholder to join. The end result being every call has 25 people on it and nothing actually gets done because no one wants to ask a question that could come off as silly.
