I received a complaint because a guest thought I was rude to her baby during check-in. I mean, I did acknowledge the kid, but I was focused on helping the parents get settled. I was just doing my job, ma'am. Would you have done anything differently?

Lol what? How can one even be rude to a baby? It's not like you're going to be talking back to one another. This person sounds totally self-absorbed. Just because you weren't fawning all over their child doesn't mean you were being rude...

I think you probably handled it well. I might have thrown in a little extra baby praise... something simple like, “Oh, what a cutie! Alright, let’s get you all settled in.” But you're doing your job, and you're not a daycare worker. Some people just want to find a reason to be upset.

Is there such things as FP&A positions in Big 4? If so, are there better times to make the change than others (I.e. at senior vs manager)? I’m currently in FP&A and looking to work at a Big 4, or another company that offers the ability to move abroad. My current company and many others I know about do not offer the mobility to do so until much later, which is not what I want. Thank you.

There’s been some turnover over the last six months at my firm, and I have taken over more files. I’m having a hard time getting ahead of briefing schedules and have been asking for extensions on a lot of recent briefs. In my practice area it’s never really an issue or objected to. However, I feel guilty that this is still happening. Any tips for getting over this?

I’ve been working at a rather prestigious midsized firm in a big city for almost a year and a half now. I have been having a lot of trouble picking up work from senior partners. We are required to bill at least 150 hours per month to meet our requirement. My months are typically only 110-130 hours. It seems like the senior partners already have their “go to” associate for things. Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can increase my workload? I reach out for work pretty much weekly.

When drafting a brief or other submissions for court or arbitration, do you use words such as clearly, erroneously, etc. to emphasize certain points? Our managing partner says that we should, but all of the writing guides for litigators that I've read repeats the mantra "show, don't tell" and explain that most judges dread such words.

I know that the politically correct thing to do here is to do whatever the managing partner wants me to do, but I just wanted to ask for other ppl's opinion.
