I came in at 185k in 2019 as a manager. Currently at 200k. I would ask for more considering your YOE. However do you have consulting experience? They usually pay less if you do not have previous consulting experience.
Understood. Hope you see more $$$ in the coming years.
I didn’t get above $180K til I hit SM. I think it’s pretty decent. Note you will get a 25% bump or so when you make SM. So think about how quickly you might get promoted.
we need more hands on people not supervisors
SR2 - I might think I’m worth X, but not every company at all times would be willing to pay that amount. That’s why I’m posting on this app to ask fellow Deloitte Managers to opine on it.
If you don’t have anything productive to add, you can keep scrolling instead of trying to be keyboard warrior.
17 YOE is SM/AD/MD territory not M. Often at Deloitte we offer a level down out of the gate. Push back
D5 - I agree with you but it’s a tough job market out there. Employers have an upper hand.
I feel if I join as a Manager, I’ll have room to grow and prove myself. If I join as a SM, I’ll be expected to start selling immediately which is tough without establishing your own network within the firm.
It depends
Very insightful!
I joined as a M in 2022 at $200k with a $20k signing bonus.
What’s your current base? Are you still a Manager?
17 YOE in what?
- Baking cookies? sounds solid.
- Consulting/ professional services? Negotiate a much higher level and comp
Many 23 year olds make that much at my work and it’s ridiculous lol 😂
I’d love some cookies
Everyone is missing the fact that this person is in Risk/Compliance consulting, not management consulting. 200k for what I (think?) used to be the Advisory side of D seems very good.
This. 230/235 is top of band for risk. I would try to come in closer to 220
Thanks everyone for your input. Appreciate it.
Out of 17 years,
-15 years is direct experience related to the role at Deloitte
- 8 years prior Big 4 consulting experience in the same field
- 11 years as a Manager
Current comp is $200k too. I had listed the same as expected salary when I applied for the role.
OP can definitely still negotiate. Even if they listed the expected as $200k, they can always say, "After learning more about the scope and complexity of the responsibilities for this role and researching its competitive market rate, I believe a fair base salary for this role is $215k with a $XXk sign on. I'm looking at the full package and confident we can get to a mutually agreeable package closer to that range." Now, if they jumped up to the full $230 it might ruffle some feathers but $10-20k negotiation between the base and bonus is fair game imo. And it actually looks bad if they take the initial offer. Consultants need to be able to negotiate and advocate for themselves.
After reading all of your responses, it seems like you should be targeting a higher position if your experience is as relevant as you claim. That’s what I’d be fighting for in your shoes and the money you want will come with the next level at any firm especially D. What am I missing?
SM is a tough role to come in at and hit your numbers. I’d rather be a high paid M and get promoted.
GPS or Commercial? That sounds low to me for NYC and your YOE but depends how much of those YOE were directly applicable. I'm a GPS with 10 yrs in MCOL city and make that base but the market is very different now than when I joined. If I were you, I'd negotiate for at least $10k more.
Thanks D1. Does Deloitte provide joining bonus by any chance?
What area. PwC manager in tech is $199k-ish
Risk & Compliance Consulting. What’s the level of Manager at PwC earning $199k?
Base is reasonable for manager level but might have flexibility.
Comp bands vary by business so which Business Line / Offering are you getting hired into.
What is your experience in?
Do you have Top-10 MBA?
Risk & Compliance. I have 14 years of past experience in the same field. I don’t have a MBA, but have Master’s in CS.
Go out on your own and make twice that without the politics. Seriously. Many of my Big 4 acquaintances are being run into the ground.
1. It depends. Need more info on which practice (offering) and your skill set
2. Yes
3. It's probably an uphill battle in this climate, but they offered you to fill a need. Need to know more about your skill set and value add for advice here.
1. Risk & Compliance
2. How much do you think they might go up?
3. Agree, that’s why I’m thinking how much to push during negotiation
HR usually will go with 80% of the top end. That woukd be 184 of the 230 k. What's your current base did you tell them. If you can provide solid rationale for more it's easier to get. But they may be able to come up a small amount
Current base is $200k. I haven’t explicitly told them. I had listed the same number in the job application as my expectation. I have another offer for $220k, but I’m interested in joining D. So, I’m thinking how to get my D base number higher.
offer is probably about right for risk and compliance.
Looks like it based on the conversations with the recruiter and what I’m hearing from other Deloitte Managers here.
