Equity share will depend on what you are bringing to the stable and stage of the startup. E.g. are you bringing professional connections, your functional expertise, etc.
Also founders should offer vested schedule for equity (e.g., if you leave in first year you get nothing) and some buy-back provision for them.

I think you both need more golf to decide if golf is or is not what you need.
One startup I worked with ended up going under after the CEO tried to pivot (against many other strong opinions) and failed so my equity was worth nil and I opportunity cost lost some valuable time from what would have likely been other more lucrative ventures... or golf.
My last gig we went back / forth on a fixed fee or bill rate model with established deliverables and KPIs. Some % was guaranteed cash, another % equity, and the 3rd portion was more performance based and up to their discretion cash w/ interest or equity but it sat on their balance sheet as a liability.
