You’re likely walking into situation where the mood and culture changed overnight. Many of us are grateful to still have employment, but lamenting the loss of valued colleagues and troubled by the slash and burn of benefits (such as PTO) that we truly valued.
Your benefits did just drastically change. Most are grateful to have a job but will start looking. Stripping benefits like leave, PTO while forcing rto for no reason
That sounds ominous. Not to sound too cynical or alarmist, but I'd be concerned that the offer was still valid. If they change the benefits drastically there's probably not anything you can do about it. Objecting to that perfidy could get them to rescind the offer. It might be best to just be happy to have a job while figuring out a plan to move on if things are untenable.
Be clear that every agency is impacted. Even agencies that aren’t being folded in/networked are having layoffs right now.
Also note this wasn't a merger. OMC acquired IPG so OMC holds all the power.
I’ve been in your situation before (vml/y&r merge) and it sucks. Morale is down, everyone is worried and chances are that you’re new coworkers have just lost colleagues/friends. Keep on grinding, survive the next year, and everything will be ok.
It helps that you’re not in a company that got folded, at least the person who hired you is still there
Honestly, I’d try to stay in your current role. Not sure your level of seniority or specialty but these mergers can take a while for the dust to settle. The atmosphere will be tense for a while. Folks will continue to be let go sadly, morale will be low, accounts understaffed, and employees with no real “out” unless they jump ship and leave to. It can take a year for a typical merger to normalize and this merger is quite unprecedented so who knows. I’d also ask about the health and security of the account you’re assigned. What also creates more tension is when clients get this news and decide they want to explore less volatile options or even, in some instances, options where competitors aren’t being worked on within the same group. Good luck!
All IPG agencies are impacted by this merger — id triple check with HR and see where your offer stands
