I spent 3 months building a resume, doing free courses, and still got rejected by 5 firms. Then a guy from my class, who was always chill, cracked an IB internship. What am I doing wrong?

Been digging into the obvious (e.g. resume, DCF, three-statements, basics of LBO, why IB + this bank) but don’t want to spend unnecessary time on everything that comes up in a google search if it isn’t the right approach.
