Simply because they don't have to. What recourse do you - or any of us - have right now? Job hopping isn't anywhere near as easy as it was a few years ago. People are clinging to jobs, low pay and all, because there just aren't a lot of better options available. You could make the argument that that should result in lower starting salaries for new hires too, but that's just not the way it works and I'm not going to begrudge the new hires for it.

Yes, it’s the way it works however it shouldn’t work this way. People shouldn’t have to suffer and struggle because they aren’t paid like others or increased appropriately based on performance and certainly shouldn’t be making less than a new comer.
